[Celebrities get paid to look good and serve as a style guide to all us common folk, and part of looking good is flaunting their totally awesome fashion sense. Each week, I will be highlighting my Style Idol of the week: a celebrity who consistently shows keen fashion sense and whose closet I would raid in a heartbeat. Of course, no celebs are immune to the occasional “what the hell were they thinking?” moment, but for the most part, these celebs look foxy and fabulous and inspire us all to do the same.]
My favorite fashion-conscious celeb this week is Miss Leighton Meester. Since becoming a bonafide star after Gossip Girl came to the silver screen last fall, this girl can be seen all over the young Hollywood circuit consistently looking put-together and gorgeous.
I love how she puts young and modern spins on classics, and while she’ll vamp it up with short skirts or backless dresses, she never crosses the line into Slutville. Not only does she choose the right clothes for her personal style, coloring and body-type, she accessorizes fabulously well and knows how to mix & match appropriately. (more…)

One of the biggest music events ever (another one?) is taking place this year.
India is set to host a new installment of Live Earth, which will feature tons of celebrities in an effort to raise funds for solar energy.
According to Live Earth founder Kevin Wall, the event this year will take place in Mumbai on December 7th.
And, during a recent press conference, Wall said this would be “one of the biggest events ever produced here and one of the major events on television.”
He added, “If you’re alive in India, somewhere, somehow, you can see or hear or become part of this event.”
The show will also be shown live in more than 100 countries.
We’ll have to wait a few weeks to find out the whole list of celebs involved, but a video message was shown during the new conference which had Jon Bon Jovi saying he’d participate.
Proceeds from the show will go to several projects, including the Light A Billion Lives campaign, which is also supported by the chairman of the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The goal of that campaign is to provide the 1.6 billion people world-wide who don’t have access to electricity with solar-powered lanterns.
Even Al Gore spoke, via satellite from the US, and praised India by saying it was chosen since it’s “the world’s largest democracy, one of the oldest and greatest civilisations, but also because of its emerging economic clout on the global stage. Because of all those factors, it is poised to play a tremendous leadership role as we begin the 21st century.”
Hopefully many people watch and donate.

This week is all about celebrities doing good.
There’s Scarlett Johansson trying to bring awareness to Rwanda and promote recycling.
There’s Brad Pitt fighting for equality!
And, now, there’s Denzel Washington, Shaquille O’Neal, Martin Sheen, and Wesly Clark helping the communities.
The four stars all happened to attend the Boys & Girls Clubs of America as children.
Now, they’re lending their childhood photos to be part of a national campaign.
On Wednesday, the campaign “BE GREAT” was revealed. It’s asking for people to volunteer their time to help their local B&GC.
Denzel, who is the national spokesman for the organization, told reporters, “What’s going on with children doesn’t worry me. What’s going on with adults worries me. If we are not more committed to these young people … they will go as far as we take them, so the onus is on us, not on the children.”
He added, “We’ve created this world for them, we are the ones that fall and we are the ones that can rectify it.”
And, during the launch event yesterday, Denzel displayed his ad which featured a photo of himself from second grade.
The headshot shows him in a collared shirt, with a tie and blazer, which was a bit how he was dressed like during the event.
To which he added, “A handsome young man that is. I have to give credit where credit is due, that begins with my mother not only for giving me life and faith and so much support, but also digging up this photo.”
It’s always good to give back!

It’s nice to see that some celebrities do care about others and give back.
Parade magazine just compiled a list of the most generous celebrities, and at the top of the list came one of our faves, Oprah Winfrey.
The talk show queen gave over $50.2 million in charitable donations, just in the last year!
Overall, she founded various donations dealing with education, health, women and child advocacy, and of course her own Oprah’s Angel Network.
Coming in at number two was generous musician Herb Alpert. The 73 year-old has given $13 million to charity, including his own music foundation.
The list is followed by Barbra Streisand at number three, who gave away $11 million last year to several causes, including environmental issues, civil rights, and AIDS research.
Paul Newman donated $10 million last year, followed by Mel Gibson, who gave away $9.9 million.
And of course, Santa Angelia Jolie and Brad Pitt made the list, giving away $8.4 million to their foundation that benefits the reconstruction in New Orleans as well as donating to refugee aid.
Could they get any better?
And, tied for seventh place on the list are three athletes, Lance Armstrong, hockey player Eric Lindros and Michael Jordan. They each donated $5 million.
Funny, why don’t we see Donald Trump’s name on the list? He definitely considers himself a celebrity.
Maybe he just doesn’t donate much??? He doesn’t care!

Re-stating the obvious!
According to the New York Times, a USC research project has confirmed that celebrities are more likely than the average Joe to have a bad case of self love.
With the help of Dr. Drew, a USC researcher was able to get 200 celebrities to take the Narcissistic Personality Inventory, a widely respected questionnaire that measures narcissistic tendencies and ranks individuals on a scale of 1 to 40, with 40 being “extremely narcissistic.”
The celeb survey takers were guests of Dr. Drew’s syndicated Love Line show.
Narcissists love sharing their ‘advice’ with us plebs!
The Times went on to report that on average, the research found that celebrities scored 17.84, which is 17 percent higher than the general public.
The ladies ranked significantly higher than the guys.
And, interestingly, celebs with the most skill (musicians) were the least narcissistic, but those with no skill (reality-show stars) were, “off the narcissism charts.”
OMG, we bet Danny Bonaduce would score “off the narcissism charts”!
