An Open Letter to Those Friends Who Think it’s Okay to Get Married Before 25Posted by: justd in collegeDear Engaged Friends, [I like to think of myself as a pretty easy going gal, and try not to sweat the small stuff. But sometimes (ok, maybe slightly more often) the general cluelessness, carelessness and overall stupididty of some things and or/people really gets to me. I find that venting is the most efficient way to rid [...] Some women get to have the dreamy, stereotypical first time. The love of your life surprises you with a romantic evening alone and it ends up in the bedroom. He tells you he loves you and all that jazz. Alright people, let’s get two things straight. 1) I love (loooove) drinking and 2) I am pretty damn serious about my GPA. A paradox, I know, but one that has contributed greatly to my collegiate success (both in and out of the bars). Unfortunately these two qualities clash in a major way when my morning [...]

Banks Using $700 Billion Bailout To Buy Other Banks, Not Make More Loans [Swindles]Posted by: justd in consumerist
Times reporter Joe Nocera listened in on a Chase employee-only conference call and one employee asked, “Chase recently received $25 billion in federal funding. What effect will that have on the business side and will it change our strategic lending policy?” Translation: When are we going to start making loans? The executive moderator replied: Twenty-five billion dollars is obviously going to help the folks who are struggling more than Chase.. What we do think it will help us do is perhaps be a little bit more active on the acquisition side or opportunistic side for some banks who are still struggling. And I would not assume that we are done on the acquisition side just because of the Washington Mutual and Bear Stearns mergers. I think there are going to be some great opportunities for us to grow in this environment, and I think we have an opportunity to use that $25 billion in that way and obviously depending on whether recession turns into depression or what happens in the future, you know, we have that as a backstop. Later, the same executive said, We would think that loan volume will continue to go down as we continue to tighten credit to fully reflect the high cost of pricing on the loan side. Translation: We’ll use that $25 billion as a war chest to buy other banks, and hoard it in case times get tougher. “Read that answer as many times as you want,” wrote NYT, “You are not going to find a single word in there about making loans to help the American economy.” Furthermore, a new tax break allows banks to immediately deduct any losses they that are on the books of the banks they acquire. What is the government doing to make banks use the money for loans? Apparently, jack, except for asking really really nicely. If this continues and banks don’t use their government handout to open up loans, this bailout will be the single greatest ripoff in American history, and those responsible are naive if they don’t think they’ll have a giant bloody revolution on their hands—and I mean that in the literal sense. So When Will Banks Give Loans? [NYT] (Photo: Getty)
Yup, that’s Bono in those pics creepily touching two bikini-clad teens. He’s married! Why would he allow such pix to be snapped????? Was he drunk? Is one of those hos his daughter???? No! Anyway, last month, Bono and one of his musician buddies went down to St. Tropez in the south of France for some guy time. While there, they hung out with 19-year olds Andrea Feick and Hannah Emerson. Feick and Emerson decided to share with all their friends on Facebook the fun pix they snapped with their pal Bono. The UK’s Daily Mail caught wind of this and has shared the fun in the sun with all of us! Yay! The paper reached out to Feick and she told them she’s known Bono for a few years and that their relationship has never crossed the friendship line, “No…God no!’ (she laughed) God no! He’s a friend of mine and that’s pretty much it. I’m not going to get into details, but it’s a small world.” A few years?!?! Did she meet him while she was in middle school? Oh, and check out the hat Andrea is wearing in the third pic. Isn’t that the same hat Bono was wearing at Disneyland? Ewwwww! [Images via Daily Mail.] No tags for this post.
Our weekend in New York was fun, ferocious and fabulous!!!!! Everything went soooo well on Friday night for our highly anticipated One Night in New York City event. And there’s a few people we need to thank for helping make it all possible. First and foremost, we’d like to thank our friends at BMF Media - Brian, Bruce, an all - for helping us put together another amazing evening. And, of course, thank you to all the talented people that performed and their management, labels and everyone who helped make it possible. Lady Gaga is already a huge star and she definitely proved that on Friday. The entire world will catch up soon enough! Her multimedia performance was so ballsy and of the caliber of a Christina, which makes it even that more impressive that Gaga is doing it now, in support of her debut album. Semi Precious Weapons delivered on their promise to bring the rock ‘n’ roll - in a glamorous way - and they delivered and delivered. They were sooooo fun. Music should be fun! And fabulous! Yo Majesty got the crowd worked up and Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings really set the tone for a fabulous evening. Four diverse acts. One fabulous evening! Thanks, again, to everyone at The Highline Ballroom for all their help. Thanks to the wonderful DJs who kept the crowd dancing throughout the night, Doug Grayson and Chip Duckett. Thank you to all the sponsors who helped us offset the costs of putting on the show, Blog Ads, Guru, Cafe Bustelo and Heineken. Many thanks as well to Citrine for letting us have our pre-party at their fabulous new space and to DJ Jesse Marco for spinning the tunes. And, of course, thank you to everyone who attended. More to come soon!!!!

Washington told taxpayers a major rationale for us to fork over $700 billion to banks was to save the American economy by making loans more accessible, but it looks like at least at Chase they rather use it to buy other banks,
